The ass end of the extractor is too high and is rubbing on the inside of the BC. It will not be a problem at a low round count but will cause trouble when the weapon becomes dry and heavily fouled. Once the inside of the bolt carrier got dry and carbonized after 700 or so rounds, it caused failures to go completely into battery. I'm going to slap it into my M4gery build and rock on! The chrome lining in the bolt carrier is much harder than the extractor steel. He has a bunch of Colt M16 bolts that exhibit the same thing. Has anyone else seen this before? What did you do besides replace the bolt/extractor?ĮTA: Talked to Denny and it's normal wear. I thought it was tight because of the new gas rings but I found its tight because of this. This extra material coupled with the "improper" depth causes it to stick out and drag against the inside of the bolt carrier. In addition, the CMT extractor is a few thousandths of an inch thicker at the tail end. I've come to the conclusion that the CMT bolt itself wasn't machined for enough insertion depth of the extractor causing it to stick out higher than the round bearing surface of the bolt. The RRA extractor did NOT have any wear at all until I put the RRA extractor into the CMT bolt and ran it through the CMT bolt carrier manually (notice slight wear at the edge). Notice the excess wear/polishing on the extractor tail. It has about 1000+ rd through it and has run fine thus far. To the right is a RRA bolt part of a RRA bolt carrier group I bought several years ago. This is a brand new CMT "MP Tested" bolt that I bought with a CMT bolt carrier group.
